7 Day Itinerary in Zurich
Edit ThisSwitzerland with its alpine vistas, little picture-postcard villages and gem-like lakes is one of the top holiday destinations in the world. Here's a 7-day Zurich itinerary, by coach from Zurich.
Day 1 - Heidiland
In
Rapperswil you can visit a medieval castle, and then travel to the
picturesque valleys and hills of the Toggenberg region and Vaduz. The
high point of the tour is the Maifenfeld area with its mountain houses
and goats, which provided the setting for the movie Heidi.
Day 2 - An Alpine Tour of Jungfraujoch
Explore
the magnificent Bernese Oberland and travel by cogwheel train to
Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. You will also see
the stunning Ice Palace, and the breathtaking Aletsch Glacier from the
Sphinx Observation Terrace.
Day 3 - A Taste of Swiss Country Life in Appenzellerland
At
Stein, you will see how they make the famous Swiss cheese. After that,
you will join the guided tour of the lovely town of Appenzell and
discover beautifully decorated houses.
The final stop on the tour is the Maestrani chocolate factory where you can watch Swiss chocolate being made.
Day 4 - Mount Titlis Day Tour
On
this full-day coach tour from Zurich, you witness the splendor of the
Alps on Mount Titlis. The trip includes a breathtaking cable car ride
to the top of the mountain at 10,000 feet, and a ride on the ice flyer,
which takes you close to the crevasses in the ice.
Day 5 - The Magnificent Eiger-Jungfrau Glacier
First
you will experience the alpine delights of the Bernese Oberland. Next
is a ride on the Wengernalp rack railway. The train climbs higher to
Kleine Scheidegg at 6,762 feet from where you can see the majestic
Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch mountains.
Day 6 - Romantic Lucerne
Located
on a lake, Lucerne reminds you of a charming medieval town. It has
beautiful alleys, a lake promenade, castles and more. The Pilatus and Rigi mountains tower above the town. The unique landscapes of Lucerne
are considered the most romantic in Switzerland.
Day 7 - Adventures on Mount Pilatus
For
the adventurous traveler, the optional toboggan ride down the longest
run in Switzerland at Frakmuntegg is perfect. Then on to Kriens where
you will board a gondola and aerial cable car to the top of Mount
Pilatus. The descent from the mountain to Alpnachstad is via the
steepest cog-wheel railway in the world.
