Of the total area, 21.5 percnet is forested; about 27 percent is used for agriculture purpose, 7 percent remains useless due to rivers, glaciers, mountains; and the rest of the land has been used by the public for buildings, roads and other items in the infrastructure.
Tourism
The city is visited by a number of adventure seekers throughout the year. The town is preferred by backpackers. There is skiing, skydiving, hang gliding and para-gliding for the visitors. The town is a peaceful place for the people to stay here. Many hotels are situated along Hoheweg Avenue, offering a good view. The main center of attraction for the city is Jungfrau which is near the railway station. It is about 4200 meters above the sea level. Mystery Park is another paranormal-based theme park which is the quite famous place in the town. It remained closed for 3 years before it was reopened in 2009.
Transportation
Although the town is small, it has 2 railway stations, Interlaken West, and Interlaken Ost (East). It has 2 funicular railways, as well. The trains run on the narrow-gauge lines inside the town.
