Getting Around in Interlaken
Edit ThisSince Interlaken is a relatively small and compact city, getting
around is fairly easy. Interlaken transportation options include buses, taxis, bikes, and traveling on foot. Day trip locations may
involve a combination of these methods as well as the railway system.
The city is connected with a bus transit system called PostAuto. Convenient bus stations allow for travel within the city's core area and connect to the two railway stations, Interlaken East and Interlaken West. These stations are at either end of Hoheweg, Interlaken's main street.
From the two railway stations, visitors can travel to other locations
in Interlaken, greater Switzerland, or Europe. Interlaken East is the
station for those headed to the mountains, while Interlaken West is more
convenient to downtown.
Taxis are located at the railways stations and at most hotels. Renting a car is not necessary for travel within Interlaken. If you have several day trips planned, the convenience of having your own automobile may prove helpful, but it is not essential.
Other TransportationScooters and bikes are available for visitors to rent. Rental areas may be found at train stations and other locations. Since much of Interlaken's core area is centralized, scooters and bikes are an easy ways to travel. In addition to general touring bikes, mountain bikes may be rented for day excursions.
Considering the centralized downtown area, travel by foot is
also an option for travelers. Walking and taking the bus are the most
popular transportation methods among local residents.
