Family Travel Ideas in Interlaken

Edit This

Interlaken family travel has plenty for everyone to enjoy and there is more to do than just extreme sports. There are many snow options as well as indoor activities for those truly bitter cold days.

Seeing the Mountains

The Top of Europe in the summer is quite spectacular. Walk through an ice palace on the Jungfrau plateau. There is a Sphinx observation hall and an ice gateway that links together the glacier and the palace. There are plenty of guided ice hikes, a restaurant and a high alpine research exhibition. You can reach the top by taking the Kleine Scheidegg, a cogwheel train. This railway is at the bottom of the North Face of Elger, one of the most dangerous climbing faces.

Another great mountain trip is the Schilthorn which contains the earliest revolving restaurant in the world. This spot has the best 360-degree panoramas with more than 200 snow capped peaks. You can see as far as the Black Forest in Germany and Mont Blanc in France.

Gardens

The Hohematte is a fantastic piece of land near the city that has some of the most beautiful views. You can find flower beds, a flower clock, gardens, convent, theater and late Gothic church. This piece of land was bought by many hotels and private owners but has not been developed. This is an unspoiled spot that you should spend some time exploring.

A Cruise on the Lake

You can enjoy a relaxing cruise on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun. Enjoy a cruise on a motor ship or renovated steamer. Each boat has banquet and catering facilities as they have events and festivities regularly. The paddle steamer even has its own children’s club.

This is the spot for hiking as there are paths for leisure hiking as well as more adventurous choices. In the summer there are more than 310 miles of paths. You can get a map from the local tourist office. This is also a great spot for biking. You do not have to bring your own bike as there are several areas that allow you to rent mountain bikes.

Unique Museums

The open air museum has more than 100 buildings that are found all over Switzerland. You can wander through the fields and historical gardens. There are also over 200 farm animals to give a good example of rural life. This spot is unique and has many events and demonstrations.

Another museum is the tourist museum that will provide information on how the region became popular. It has exhibits from the beginning of the century to the present day.
