Tierp is a municipality in the northern part of the province Uppland, on the E4 road between Uppsala and Gävle. This part of Uppland is quite flat and may superficially look uninteresting. People use to say that “Tierp is so ugly that even the crows fly upside down over it”. However, even if the village itself may not have much to offer the tourist, the vicinities have.: There are a number of villages with quite interesting remnants from a flourishing steel industry, mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries (see Lövstabruk). There is also a scenic and inviting coastline, including places for swimming, bird watching, walking etc.
