Småland is a major province in the south of Sweden, of about the same size as Belgium and with about 700,000 inhabitants. It is heavily forested and has many lakes and a long coast. Some 400 km south of Stockholm, close to Kalmar and Öland you find the Glasriket area ('Kingdom of Chrystal'), as this particular part of Småland is often called because of the old glassworks you find in the area. All twenty of them offer free tours and most have shops selling their wares. Växjö has a glass museum as well as one dedicated to Swedish emigration to the United States in the 19th century.
