Things to do in Madrid

Edit This

Madrid offers something for everyone. Starting from romantic getaways, family picnic spots and cultural activity parks to pure leisure vacation spots or adventure sports events, you will find everything in and around Madrid. Madrid Things to Do involves the following recreations:

Bullfight

Madrid is the epicenter of Bullfight. Your Madrid trip will remain incomplete unless you visit a Bullfight ring once. La Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas del Espíritu Santo or Las Ventas is Madrid’s main bullring. The ring was constructed and inaugurated in 1931 and initially was used only for bullfights. Now it is also used for concerts and political meetings. This mudejan style building itself is a popular attraction, however, watching a real bullfight in the ring will give you more pleasure than anything else. If you visit Madrid during May or June, then you might get a chance to view the world famous San Isdiro Bullfight festival in this ring.

Estádio de Santiago Bernabéu

Santiago Bernabeu is the home ground of Real Madrid Football Club, arguably the best club in the history of the football world. The stadium was opened way back in 1947 and at that time it was called Estadio Chamartén. Later, in 1955 it changed the name to its current name. A must see destination for any tourist, this stadium has earned the 5 star rate by UEFA. The club offers a tour of the stadium which includes a panoramic view of the stadium from the top, walk on the pitch, a visit to the trophies room and the magnificent president’s balcony. In case you are a football fan, then Bernabeu is the Rome or Mecca of European football for you. It is advised that you plan your trip in such a way that you get to see the Galacticos (Real Madrid Football Team) playing in Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid Flamenco

Flamenco is a music and dance form, very core to Spanish culture and you should not miss your opportunity to hear and see one when you are in Madrid. Flamenco can be seen or heard in many bars and restaurants. The best place to see flamenco in Madrid is Corral de la Moreria restaurant. It will offer some excellent flamenco performed by some of the best artists along with some exquisite Spanish food for your evening meal.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

Balloon Flights Spain offers the visitors to take a once in a lifetime hot air balloon ride in Madrid. It might be expensive, but the experience will give you back more than yoru money’s worth. The balloon will take you thousands of feet above the ground and will give you an exceptional bird’s eye view of the Madrid city. It also takes you over the medieval cities of Toledo and Segovia and Granada. The picture-postcard vista of the old castle of Segovia, stunning castle and Alcazar of Toledo and the magnificent cathedral of Granada gives you an out of the world experience.

If you're the adventurous type, you might want to try taking a bike ride during your stay in Madrid. While this is not a popular activity in the city due to the congested streets and a good number of reckless drivers, you can rent a bike and head to a park/biking area such as Casa de Campo -- where it's safe. To get there on the subway -- yes you can take your bike on the subway (first car only) -- simply get off at the Casa de Campo subway stop and check out the map that will direct you to where the bike path begins.
