Family Travel Ideas in Platja d'Aro

Camping
Depending on your budget, the least expensive option is camping. There are 6 campgrounds in and around town offering low prices but having limited amenities.
Hotels
If you prefer staying in a hotel, the town boasts several hotels and resorts. They all offer options for staying with children, although some will offer discounts on activities with children. You should inquire about this option when reserving.
Rentals
If being more independent is more to your liking, you can find apartments or houses for rent in town. Most apartment buildings offer a pool and they are usually located within walking distance from shopping. Prices vary greatly for these rentals and spaces fill in fast, so you should reserve early. Platja d'Aro offers several activities that are suitable for families and large groups.
Beaches
The main beach offers several sports in the Beach Fun areas, such as volleyball, rugby, football, basketball and badminton. You can also rent paddle boats at the middle of the beach. The Red Cross provides lifeguards and first aid stations. The golden sand gently slopes into the water so it is perfect for the little ones. Bring lots of sunscreen as the rays in summer can be very brutal and paler skin will burn easily.
Cycling
If you like cycling, you can rent bicycles and head for the Via Verde. This path uses the old railway lines and offers packed gravel pavement and very slight inclines (3% grade or less). It snakes through historical and cultural areas that you would not get to explore otherwise. You can bring a picnic and stop anytime along the way to rest and enjoy the countryside. Make sure to bring a lot of liquids as kids can dehydrate easily when cycling in the sun.
Free guided tours
The tourism board offers free guided tours to the Roman Settlement of Pla de Palol, Castell d'Aro and the Coastal Path of s'Agaro. Some tours are slightly longer, so you might want to read the brochures to make sure it is suitable for younger children.
Platja d'Aro Te Premi!
The town also offers the Platja d'Aro Te Premi! summer competition. Hundreds of marked seashells are thrown into the surf of the main beach. When a special shell is found, it should be brought to the tourism office. Each shell lets you pick an envelope with a price. You could win prices such as t-shirts and caps to discounts to restaurants and free hotel nights. Every shell also entitles you to fill in a draw ticket, which are also given by restaurants to their customers. The competition ends in December with the drawing of a car from all draw tickets received.
Dining out
Dining out with your family can also be affordable in Platja d'Aro. Most restaurants offer a children's menu with smaller portions and lower prices. You can find restaurants catering to all tastes, specializing in traditional Mediterranean cuisine, French, Italian, Dutch, Argentinean, Oriental, Mexican cuisines as well as restaurants serving fast food, pizza and rotisserie/grill. If you prefer cooking, there are several supermarkets in and around town. Most are within walking distance from the center of town.
