If you dont like hanging around british and german drunk and sunburned tourists the hole day, you should definitly rent a car and experience the Island. We experienced some of the best hotels and places aróund the Island, often a lot cheaper than the ones in the south. We met the friendliest people, discovered huge banana and papaya plantages and just had the best time. Hardly any tourist goes and visit e.g. Arucas, a small lovely town in the north for example. But its defnitly worth it! The former capital for rum/sugar and bananas, being in Arucas makes you feel being in a far away country like Cuba, but definitly not in Europe!

Visit the most amazing hotel "Hacienda" and dont miss the cathedral as well as the rum production site.
