Eating Out in Moscow

Russians by nature have always been fond of eating and treating their guests. At dinner parties or simply at home Russians have always tried to treat their guests with wide varieties of different meals and traditional Russian delicacies. It is considered the honor of the hostess to dazzle the guests with the art of culinary. Therefore, only occasionally the Russians dined out at the restaurants. However, all through Russia in general and Moscow in particular there always has been a developed net of fine restaurants.

The news images that portray Moscow as a place with nowhere to eat are far from being true. Moscow is being taken over by a new overwhelming wave of franchises, pizza bars, bar & grills, pasta restaurants, Irish pubs...However, if you want to taste genuine Russian cuisine there are plenty of fine places to indulge yourself.

Restaurant Prince Bagration

This Georgian resturant offers a vast repast of traditional meats. Start with some smoked Georgian cheese. It's shaped like shoestrings and is quite elastic, but has an intense smokey flavor that provokes an apetite of Georgian proportions. Meat is the specialty. If you don't eat it, go elsewhere. Charming Georgian singers may be heard in the downstairs portion of the resturant on most evenings. Somewhat expensive if you take your time and order proper courses.
