People in Timisoara

Legend says that Johnny Weissmuller- better known all over the world as Tarzan- the jungle superhero- was born in Timisoara (more specifically, in Freidorf). After his family arrived to Ellis Island, in January 1905, his story became an American one. He was only seven months old. At the age of nine he started taking swimming lessons, a skills that would help him develop the famous body used for the movie character Tarzan.
His career began with a lifeguard job, and then he worked as a swimming-wear model. His breakthrough was in 1932, when he appeared in Tarzan-the Ape Man motion picture.
