History in Timisoara
Edit This
There is a cemetery- Heroes Cemetery (near Iulius Mall), where it is burried Beethoven's first love. Jeanette von Honrath from Koln (Germany) was also in love with the young composer, but unfortunately he was poor at that time. She married the Austrian captain Karl von Greth (it is said he was both rich and handsome) in 1788. LAter, when he was made general, they came to Timisoara. She died at age of 52, as the wife of the comandor of the fortress. Her grave is marked by an obelisque, but you must look for it carefully as the marble with her name is now missing.
About the Catholic Dome in Unirii Square there is an interesting legend (un-confirmed) that the bride of the man who build it died on the very stairs of the Dome, in her wedding day. This is way-it is said- there are not marriages allowed in this place.
