Sete Cidades is a rural village in a volcanic crater in the western part of São Miguel, situated between the two crater lakes Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde. It is a nice area for walking. For easy and pleasant walks, small roads along the shores of Lagoa Azul can be recommended. It is, however, not possible to walk around the lake, for the northern part is steep and non-inhabited.

Long walks with nice views are possible along the creater rim. Cameeiras, Vista do Rei and the aqueduct near Lagoa do Canário are good starting points.
