There are some, not many, buses running between Furnas and Ponta Delgada. If you want to walk around the lake Lagoa das Furnas, get off the bus where you first see the lake (if travelling from Ponta Delgada). If you want to visit the fumarole area, leave the bus at the other end of the lake (towards town).
