Day Trips in São Miguel

When visiting São Miguel with the intention of making daytrips by bus, Ponta Delgada a good place to start from. Local buses doesn't run very frequent and one has to study the bus schedule quite well to make sure not to get stuck far from "home". Luckily the taxis aren't that expensive.

Walking guide booklets can be bought at a bookstore (i.e. at O Gil Livraria on Rua Diário dos Açores, n.º 17 - 19 in Ponta Delgada, tel 296 287 181) for €1:50. These contain maps over the suggested hike and some information on the sites along the way. Exampels of hikes are: Furnas, Salto do Cabrito and Praia-Lagoa do Fogo.

If travelling with a tour operator, see if they can provide with some guides. STS Solresor/Solia (Swedish and Norwegian) sells walking guides for €3 and guides for travellers with car for €4.
