Queijada de Sintra

Sintra’s Traditional Cakes
Small cakes, made with fresh cow cheese, eggs, sugar, flour and aromatized with cinnamon. The Queijada’s origin can be traced to the XIII century. However, it is during the romantic XIX century that this cake became famous. We know the ingredients, but the proportions are a very well kept secret, transmitted during generations within each manufacturer’s family. At present there are four different well-known brands: Sapa , since 1756; Piriquita , since 1862; Gregório , since 1890 and Casa do Preto , since 1933.
