Praia da Rocha must do’s tend to be centered around the beach, although there is plenty to do if you are not a keen swimmer.  This town is a popular seaside resort in Portugal in the famous Algrave region.

1. Historical Fort

St. Catarina Fort is a great historical sight, and it is found at one end of the main beach. The fort was built in 1621 in order to protect the city from the Moors and the Spanish pirates. Today you can visit the fort and see the fantastic panoramic views, as the fort is at a high point overlooking the city. This is a popular spot for bird watching and viewing the sunset. There is a small café and bar where you can get a drink and something to eat.

2. A Walk Along the Cliffs

The cliffs are quite spectacular, and there is a great scenic walk along the cliff tops from Buraco da Avo that ends a little bit beyond Praia da Rocha. The cliff edges are quite dangerous but there are walkways that are newly cobbled, making it very easy to enjoy the walk and the views without having to worry about falling.

3. Shopping, Eating and Nightlife

The best spot for restaurants and shopping is at Tomas Cabieira Avenue, which follows along the coastline. It is here where you can find many hotels, discos, restaurants, the casino, and several bars. This is the spot for nightlife in Praia da Rocha. You can enjoy this area during the day and at all hours of the night.

4. Time at the Beach

The beach is very long and wide, so even during the busiest days in the summer, there is plenty of space.  Behind the beach are reef cliffs that glow in the morning and evening during sunrise and sunset. There are concession areas where you can rent an umbrella.  It is easily possible to spend all day at the beach and never have to leave. You can partake in many water sports including pedaloes, banana boats, water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, and more. There are several different spots to which you can access the beach, most having plenty of steps.

5. A Round of Golf

Many people travel to Praia da Rocha for the golf, as there are some beautiful courses. The very first course is Penina, and is a masterpiece designed by Sir Henry Cotton. Palmares Course is known for its spectacular scenery. The Morgado do Reguengo is the newest of all the courses and is spread out over 980 hectares. The last golf course to be designed by Henry Cotton is Alto Golf, which runs through two different valleys.
