Sights in Praia da RochaEdit This
There are plenty of Praia da Rocha sights to visit, and much of the activities center around the beach. This is a popular holiday resort town in the Algarve region of Portugal.Golden Sand Beaches
The main beach is a stretch of golden sand that can be accessed by everyone via ramps, footpaths and walkways. It is not a very long beach, but it is wide and even. During the peak of summer beach times, there is plenty of room along the beach. There is a wooden walkway that runs along the length of main beach so you can easily visit the restaurants and cafes that line the beach. Most of the time there are lifeguards, but look out for the colored flags that indicate where swimming is permitted.Fortaleza da Santa Caterina
The Fortaleza da Santa Caterina is a fort found in the eastern part of the main beach. This fort was built in the year 1691, and was mainly used safeguard the city from the River Arade. You can see the entire town from the top, as well as the colored marina near Ferragudo. This is a great spot to come and enjoy the sunset.Historic Churches
There are many churches in town that are from different periods, so the architecture is quite interesting. Near Tomas Cabreira Avenue is the Chapel in the Fortress of Santa Catarina de Ribamar. The Portimao church originated in the 14th century, though it was rebuilt due to an earthquake in 1755. The Alvor Church, which was constructed in the 16th century, overlooks the harbor.Waterparks and Zoos
There are several waterparks where you can go to cool off for the day and enjoy some thrilling rides. Slide and Splash, located near Lagoa, runs from April to October. Aqualand, located near Alcantarilha, is the biggest water park, and is open during the spring and summer months.
You can also have fun at the zoo, as it is open year-round and has an excellent collection of animals. Zoomarine offers seal and dolphin shows. You can see the tropical bird show or the birds of prey show. They also have a water flume, pirate’s ship and plenty of places to eat. This is open all year round.Natural Areas
The cliffs along the coast make for some spectacular hiking. There are two natural parks in the region: Parque Natural da Ria Formosa and Parque Natural do SW Alentejano e Costa Vicentine. It is possible to explore many different habitats, see plenty of wildlife and some spectacular scenery.
