Things to do in Porto

Edit This
If you are wondering what to do in Porto, add these to your Porto things to do list. Best known for its luscious wine, Porto is the second largest city in Portugal, and it is a place that is popular with tourists. Here are a few recommendations for you.

Drink a Glass of Port Wine

Porto is made famous by its sweet-tasting port wine, a fortified wine just like Madeira and sherry. To keep its sweetness, a neutral brandy is added during fermentation so that the alcohol content is reduced. An extreme-flavored fruit as the main ingredient makes it more flavorsome and just right after you eat the main course. No travel to Porto is complete without drinking a glass of port wine.

Stroll Around the City

Take a walk down the center of Porto; you will be able to enjoy some of the best sights of the city just by walking around. At the south bank you will find the Ponte de Dom Luis I, and you can also stroll toward the famous golden “Tree of Jesse" woodcarving located at Igreja de San Francisco. Take in the beauty of the city as you walk around.

Shop for Carpets

Purchasing traditional wares like the Arraiolos carpets, otherwise known as the Portuguese rugs, is such a worthwhile activity while staying at Porto. The city’s stalls are all filled with embroidered linens, ceramics, and gold filigree jewelry. You can also choose to shop around for some souvenirs for your family and friends back home. The Bolhão Market is the main marketplace in the central town, while the Centro Regional de Artes Tradicionais is famous for handicrafts.

Walk Along the Promenade

Sunday could be the best day for the whole family to go out and explore the different places of Porto. Spend a day at the beach and take a walk along the beautiful Atlantic promenade with your family. While you’re at it, you can stop by at some of the fine cafés and other sea-view restaurants. The promenade runs along Avenida Brazil. Remember to take your digital camera along so that you can capture some amazing pictures.

Try the Cafés

One of the things you would not want to miss doing is trying out the delicious pastries at the cafés. A good place to experience some of the best pastries is at Tavi’s. This is one Porto’s famous cafes. This is the perfect place where you can eat scrumptious sweets, delectable chocolates, tasty croissants, gourmet delicacies, and home-made ice creams.
