If you are planning to visit the global city of Porto, getting there is not a problem. Since Porto is accessible by water, air and land, getting there is easy and worry-free. Here are a few recommendations.

By Air

Porto can be accessed through air, and is served by the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. The airport is situated in Pedras Rubras, Moreira, which is the northwestern part of the city. It has first-class facilities and world-class customer services, but be advised that this airport doesn’t have a left-luggage facility. Several carriers like Air Berlin, Ryanair, TAP, and Portugalia operate regular flights in and out of Porto.

By Train

You can also get to Porto by train. The main railway station is situated in Campanha, the eastern part of Porto. The São Bento train station, on the other hand, is the central railway station, situated right in the city center of Porto. This is the terminal for most regional, inter-regional and suburban trains.

Bus Services

Rede Expressos is one of the major domestic and long-distance bus service operators in Portugal. It provides service for the entire country, such as from Porto to Fatima and vice versa. The bus company operates services that pass through the Paragem Atlântico Terminal, AV Minho, Braga, Villa Do Conde, Viana Do Costelo, Arva and Guimaraes. The main terminal in Porto is located in Batalha. You can also drive to Porto from other cities.

Porto Metro system

You can also access Porto through the subway and light rail transit of the Porto Metro System.  There are five lines open in Porto, all of which start at Estádio do Dragão and end at either ISMAI, Senhor do Matosinhos, Francisco Sá Carneiro or Póvoa de Varzim. The Porto Metro System line D presently runs from Hospital S Jaoa to the southern part of Douro River. The Metro in Porto is the largest metro transit in Portugal, which covers 37 miles and has 68 stations.

Trams

A Tram ride is an extraordinary means of transportation to get into Porto. This is the only tourist line that remains on the shore of the Douro River. This line was constructed on 1895 making it the first ever tram line in the Iberian Peninsula. The tram is a British rail-borne vehicle that runs along the tracks on the streets. These are generally lighter than ordinary trains and rapids trains. You can make use of the tram to get to Porto.
