Ristorante Villa Cipriani
Ristorante Villa Cipriani owned by Reids Palace Hotel not only has good food but the atmosphere and views from the windows by the cliffs overlooking the sea are simply breathtaking. The Italian food is very good and dinners can cost $40 and up. Go there merely to see the view but make sure to make reservations first and ask for a cliffside table.
Combatentes in Funchal
A mid-range restaurant with very good seafood is Combatentes in Funchal. They offer a fresh day’s catch and other traditional dishes of the area. Their wine list is extensive as well. You can get a good meal here for about $10 to $20.
San Antonio
Another mid-range restaurant that has the best espetadas, which is beef roasted on a spit, is a restaurant called San Antonio. Here the staff is very friendly and the food is very good. The restaurant is very colorful and is usually full of people. You can get a meal here for $10 to $20.
Ferro Velho in Sao Vicente
Seafood is king at Ferro Velho in Sao Vicente is on a promenade near a whole row of restaurants. The tables are outside and their fish offerings are very good. Dinners will cost you about $10 to $20.
Doca do Cavacas
Looking for a place with some gorgeous scenery and romantic ambiance? Go to Doca do Cavacas and partake of the seafood. Watch the spices as everything is highly spiced in this restaurant. Also note that many waiters do not speak English very well but it is worth it just to see the ocean from the restaurant. The restaurant is near mall Centro Comercial Centromar in Funchal and it is hard to find because you have to walk down many stairs to get to it from the parking lot. This restaurant is a mid range and you can get a dinner for $20 to $30 per person.
Inexpensive Dining
For the budget minded individual you can go to small bars and local restaurants and find food that is extremely inexpensive. Many of them have soup and a few main dishes but they can be very delicious and cost less than $10. You can find a bunch of these small places in Old Market Square in Machico. Many serve outdoors and in and they beat fast food any day.
Expensive or cheap, you can find anything you want to eat in Madeira.

Edit ThisWe found the snackbar vieira in Funchal very good for there price and there food was very good. Ricardo would served was alway a happy chap. A very nice family.
