Day Trips in Lisbon
Edit ThisThere are many options for taking Lisbon Day Trips that you may only be able to visit a handful of them while you are in Portugal. The best of the best day trips from Lisbon are as below.
Sintra
About 30 km west of Lisbon, Sintra is a beautiful romantic place encircled by steep mountains and lush green forests. The main attractions of Sintra include Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, the National Palace of Sintra, the Monserrate Palace and Quinta da Regaleira. Constructed by Moors in the 8th century, Moorish Castle is now in a state of ruins. The castle offers an amazing vista of the surrounding landscape below. Pena Palace, on the other hand, is a symbol of love. Constructed by a German noble Baron Eschwege for his beloved wife Queen Maria II, the palace offers an outstanding scenic view of the Atlantic Ocean and the sprawling Lisbon City. The National Palace of Sintra also known as Royal Palace was built in the 14th century by the Portuguese king Dom Juao. The Palace is a curious mixture of different architectural styles. Today the palace serves as a museum. The Monserrate Palace and Quinta da Regaleira are also worth spending a few hours in each.
Cascais
Cascais, originally a fishing village, is one of the most popular tourist points. About 25kms away from Lisbon City, Cascais is replete with small beaches where you can spend an eventful day with your family and friends. The bay being the main attraction here, you may walk around the beautifully designed cobblestone streets surrounding the bay. There are some ancient structures in Cascais like St. George Fort and Palácio de Conde de Castro Guimarães which have now been transformed into museums. An array of restaurants along the coastline offer delectable local cuisines. You must have a meal in any one of them.
Estoril
Not far away from Cascais, Estoril is another majestic town which was once a favorite spot among spies, authors and banished royals during World War II. Estoril boasts of Europe’s biggest casino - Casino de Estoril - which was an inspiration for the movie Casino Royale. Aside from the casino, the main beach of Estoril, called the Praia de Tamariz, is worth visiting to spend a day amidst fun and merriment.
Arrabida Natural Park
Expanding over an area of 10,800 hectares, Arrabida National Park was founded in 1976. The highest peak of the park is about 500 meters high. You must visit the Arravida convent and chapel which are the oldest structures in Portugal. The bright white chapel on the backdrop of primitive lush green vegetation looks classy. The beaches in Arrabida are quiet and very good for diving. Portinho da Arrabida, a beautiful beach in Arrabida with its extremely colorful maritime flora, a small cozy township and a 16th century fortress is a fascinating tourist attraction.

South of the river
Edit ThisFishing harbour, Sesimbra

This could possibly be done in a shorter time with planning - but it is best not rushing and some of the transport links may involve delay.
First take the longest ferry route across the river to Montijo. The trip is good but there's not a lot to see here so get a bus as soon as possible to Setubal. From here you can get a bus for a very pleasant ride to Sesimbra. You may well want to spend a bit of time here and it is good to take a local bus out to the fishing port and back. [If you are British, you may well wonder at the apparent prosperity of the industry here.]
Then more..
