Eating Out in Funchal
Edit ThisGoing to the different Funchal restaurants will be one of the things to look forward to in your Portugal vacation. This sunny town is one of the top attractions of Madeira, where you can find charming botanical gardens, open air markets, and good food that ranges from street food to high-end restaurants.
Restaurant le Jardin
One of the most reliable restaurants in Funchal is le Jardin. It is a traditional mid-range restaurant which serves traditional Madeira Cusine. For starters, you might appreciate the tomato and onion soup. They also have a great selection of fish dishes such, as the Tuna Fish Steak and Scabbard Fish Fillet in Garlic. Specialties of the house include beef dishes like Strogonoff and Pepper Steak, as well as seafood like Curry Shrimps and Lobster Medallions Le Jardin Style. They also have a reliable wine list to compliment. Make sure to reserve a table as Le Jardin is always fully packed whether you go during lunch or dinner, even in between times. Le Jardin is near the Porto Santa Maria and the Cable car station.
Restaurant Xopana
Lying in the midst of the Choupana Hills Resort and Spa is the award-winning restaurant headed by Chef Eyck Zimmer. The restaurant mostly offers fusion cuisine and European specialties by the chef of the house. Specialties of the house include Duck Foie Gras, Roast Suckling Pig and Roast and Lacquered Cherne. Above the restaurant, with a beautiful view of the resort and Atlantic Ocean, is Basalt Bar, where you can enjoy some light drinks with friends after that delicious lunch or dinner.
