Edit ThisIn Armacao de Pera, Things to Do are plentiful. The gorgeous locale of Armacao de Pera in the Algarve region of Portugal, offers visitors the ideal beach getaway with long stretches of gorgeous, sandy beach in an ideal climate. There are plenty of water activities, churches, museums, golfing, wine tasting, and fun parks for the whole family to enjoy.
Water activities are one of the main draws to Armacao de Pera. The beaches in Armacao de Pera were recently classified as "Accessible Beaches" meaning that beach-goers have easy access to the beachfront. Restaurants are able to offer table and bar service, first aid and toilets are readily available, and ramps are provided for easy wheelchair access. Most beaches now have lifeguards on duty during their high season (April to September), making beach fun safe for the whole family. A trip to Armacao de Pera is not complete without a visit to the longest beach in the area, Praia da Armacao de Pera, which goes on as far as the eye can see. Near the western end at Nossa Senhora da Rocha there are many fascinating rock formations and caves to explore. Walks along the many beaches in Armacao de Pera provide visitors with a look at some of the traditional fishing boats that once littered it's beaches. Scuba divers will be delighted to learn that there is a dive center that offers daily excursions to explore shipwrecks and the local coral reef.
Churches and historical monuments are a great way to take in the local architecture. Many of the churches such as the Main Church of Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Rocha, and the Church of St. Anthony date back to the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. These simple structures give visitors a glance back in time at life in the Algarve. Don't miss the Alcantarilha, a small chapel from the 16th century, and the Chapel of Bones next door, where skulls cover most of the walls and ceiling. Along the waterfront in Armacao de Pera you can see the remains of a 17th century fort that was initially built to protect the local fisherman from north African pirates, but now provides stunning seascapes of Portugal.
