Armacao de Pera museums may be few and far between, but if you need a break from the sun and beautiful beaches, there are a couple of notable stops that you can make to learn about the culture, art and history of the region.

Museums in Armacao de Pera

Though more of a theme park than museum, Zoomarine is a great educational stop on your vacation to the Algarve and worth mentioning here. Enclosed in 17 acres, this ocean theme park has recreated over 20 aquatic ecosystems and features exhibits and shows with such animals as dolphins, birds of prey, seals, sea lions and tropical birds. There is much to see and do here, including watching a 4D movie, checking out the high dive show, visiting the animal rehabilitation center, exploring the plant awareness center and swimming with dolphins. This is a great stop for the whole family and close to town. 

Located just under 20 miles from Armacao de Pera in Lagos is the Municipal Museum, or Museu Municipal Dr Jose Formosinho. This museum contains many relics of the past centuries, including 16th century vestments, a gallery of paintings, 17th century embroidery and cork carvings. There are numerous antiquities here discovered through excavations in the area and it is a great museum with diverse exhibits suitable for people with varying interests.

After a couple days of beach activities, break up your vacation to Armacao de Pera with a trip to one of these fascinating area museums and you will be glad you did.
