From its humble beginnings as a small fishing village Armacao de Pera has grown into a cosmopolitan resort town which is popular among both Portuguese and international tourists. The fishing legacy is still however alive as along the beach you can see the local fisherman heading out to sea on their boats. High season is during the 3 summer months when the weather is optimum for a beach vacation. Traveling out of peak season will offer a quieter holiday away from the crowds.
Accommodation
Accommodation options range from modern apartments to hotels. Many apartments are located by the beach front with beautiful views over the sea. From your apartment it is easy to travel around Armacao de Pera as the roads are new and well sign posted. The beach area and city center are easy to find. There is a supermarket in the area which is well stocked and sells fresh produce for those who want to cook their own food while on holiday.
Attractions
Located near the beach is the ruins of a fort which was built in the 17th century to protect the village. Near the fort is the Santo Antonio Chapel. From the fort follow the cobbled streets to explore a treasure trove of shops and cafes. Go for a relaxing stroll along the seafront and stop at one of the restaurants which sell delicious fresh fish. The Church Square is a pretty area with trees and a church in the center. If you walk a bit further on there are tourist facilities such as internet cafes and playgrounds. For a day trip head to the Marine Park located in Guia. Algarve Mall in Guia offers alternative shopping options. Nearby towns include Algoz and Porches. It is worth it to take a day trip to Silves to see the castle which is a historic site.
Beaches
The beautiful sandy beach stretches for miles creating a haven for sun lovers. The beach has ample parking space. Armacao de Pera has beaches that are accessible to disabled people as the beaches have ramps and paths that reach the sand as well as disabled toilets. Praia da Armacao de Pera beach is popular and has lifeguards during season time. There are restaurant's and cafes near the beach where you can enjoy a refreshing drink after a day in the sun. At the end of the beach there are caves and rocks to explore. Praia Grande Beach is lined with sand dunes and there is ample space for people to spread out along the stretching beach.
