Shopping in Faro
Edit ThisFaro Shopping is a treat to the senses, and while Faro is not known for its shopping the town does provide both quaint shops and indoor malls for all your buying pleasures.
Forum Algarve:
Most shopaholics who come to Faro will enjoy the appeal of the well-developed outdoor mall, Forum Algarve. This is considered to be one of the largest shopping centers in Europe, and while it is an outdoor mall its pathways are covered, in case of rain. This outdoor plaza is multi-leveled and boasts of a very reasonably priced food court where you can try regional delicacies. The most frequented stores in this plaza are the Jumbo store and C&A Clothing store, both popular favorites with tourists. The rest of the mall is filled with quaint upscale shops catering to chic shoppers. If you get tired of shopping, pop by the cinema for a flick, but be sure to check what language the film is in. You can find the Forum Algarve at the N125 direction airport, pass the first roundabout at the entrance to Faro. Parking is found easily, and the mall is open from 10 in the morning until 12 at night.
Local Food Markets:
The arguably best shopping that takes place in Faro is in the food markets. Foodies won't even know where to start. Between the fresh pressed figs, handmade chorizo sausages, cherries, almonds, breads and cheese, there is plenty of delectable treats available to make a quick picnic to take to the beach. The selection of fine Portuguese wines will please any aficionado , and you will surely find some great bottles to add to your cellar. The best food markets are rumored to be smaller ones frequented by locals, this is where you can find the real Algarvian specialties. To find an out-of-the-way local market, simply ask a local! While you're with the local why not ask about a great restaurant for dining at the end of a day of shopping when you will have worked up quite an appetite.
Souvenir Shopping:
For souvenirs it's best to scour the shops close to the beaches and tourist areas. Be sure to check prices, and if there is no price, feel free to engage in some haggling.
Last-Minute Shopping:
And if you still haven't found everything that you are looking for in the various malls and shops by the time you leave, you can always pick up more things at the duty free in the Faro Airport, which offers a variety of shops.
