Getting There in Faro

Edit This

When planning your trip to Faro, Getting There is usually at the top of your list of things to do. Here are some tips on how to plan your trip to Faro.

Getting There by Plane

The Faro International Airport (Aeroporto Internacional de Faro, in Portuguese, and with IATA airport code: FAO) is the second largest international airport in Portugal. Serving several cities in Portugal and just less than 3 km (about 1.8 miles) from Faro, it is the best starting point to look for airfares to Portugal. Connecting flights are available from the Lisbon International Airport but there are several local and international airlines offer direct flights to and from the city of Faro. The Faro International Airport is the main hub for Irish airline Ryanair, so if you're flying from within continental Europe, the United Kingdom or Ireland, it is a good idea to look first for fares through this airline. To guarantee the lowest possible airfare, book your flight with at least 1 week in advance. Some last minute specials could be available but don't bet on them being actually there.

Getting There by Bus and Train

You should only travel by bus and train to Faro if you have plenty of time and you're not traveling with pets or lots of luggage. If that is not the case then it is better to stick with air travel only because you will have more time available to actually enjoy your trip. Bus and rail tickets are affordable but it is not uncommon for scheduled trips to be delayed. Also, night departures are quite limited. However, traveling by bus and train does offer a better idea of the land and it does provide plenty of great photo opportunities.
