Family Travel Ideas in Faro
Edit ThisFaro is a family travel destination, offering many great activities and adventures that will entertain both you and your children no matter their age. Lush with beaches, stunning architecture and historical landmarks, there is much to see and do on a family vacation to Faro.
Faro Family Travel Ideas
Exploring castles on your trip to Faro is a must. The Moorish castles, including Castro Marim and Silves Castle, are a great place to start. Faro Castle in Old Town is also a great place for children, where they can look out to sea and climb up the old battlements.
Faro is a great outdoor destination and with near constant sun, you will most likely spend most of your vacation outdoors. Falesia Beach is a great place to start. Its expansive sandy beaches are great for sandcastle building and are generally less crowded than other beaches in the city.
Outdoor activities here include boating and water sports. A boat ride to the neighboring Tavira Island is great to take advantage of its near deserted beach, canoeing and banana boat rides. Praia de Rocha is the place to go for jet skiing and windsurfing.
If you and your family enjoy theme parks, check out Slide and Splash in Carvoeiro or explore the large collection of turtles and sharks at Zoomarine.
If you have had enough sun, the Faro Archaeological Museum is the place to stop and take in some of the history of the region. Housed in what remains of a medieval church built in 1519, this was the first museum in Algarve opening its doors in 1894. Along with archaeological finds, the museums houses a great collection of 16th and 17th century paintings from the surrounding Algarve temples.
Faro Family Day Trips
Once in Faro, you are nicely positioned for several great family day trips from the city. Fabrica do Ingles is an interesting look into the country's cork industry and features many restaurants and bars, along with a nice outdoor play park for the kids. Another great trip is to Lagos to the Lagos Zoo where a great parrot show and kangaroo exhibit are among the top attractions.
Faro is an ideal family vacation spot with a nice mix of activities to keep you and your family entertained throughout your stay.
