Top 5 Must Do's in Zakopane
Edit ThisIf snow and winter sports are at the top of your Zakopane must do's list, then you are not alone. Zakopane, Poland, is a winter wonderland for a better part of the year. However, there is more than just skiing available in this small, cozy mountain town. Zakopane must do's should include:
1. Off Road AdventuresOff road tours are offered by way of ATV's. Don't have any experience on 4-wheelers? Don't sweat it; the highly trained guides will walk you through everything you need to know. Your safety is their number one priority. You will be taken through valleys and hills, through forests, and to many stopping points to admire the views. Another off road adventure is the patrol. You can spend a half day or a full one off road with instructors.
2. Zakopane International FestivalThe Zakopane International Festival of Highland Folklore takes place in August, which is a great time to visit. Artists fill the streets with live performances of music, poetry and dancing. Art exhibits are displayed, and great food specialties can be had. It is guaranteed to be a great time when Zakopane and other countries come together and celebrate folklore. Celebrate art and ties to the past in this festive event in August. Don't forget the camera, as you will want plenty of pictures.
3. The Tatra MuseumThe Tatra Museum of ethnography and natural history is first on the list of animal and bird exhibits, but houses folk art as well. Original Highlander costumes are on display here. Admire beautifully designed wooden interiors and glass paintings that will awe and amaze you. There are of course other great museums that will delight the visitor, but the Tatra Museum should be the first place you start.
4. The Cable CarThe cable car to Kasprowy Wierch may be a little expensive, but it is well worth the price. You will be carried up the mountain and come face to face with a marvelous view of the valley below. Catch your breath as you feel like you are on top of the world. Depending on the season, you can either catch the cable car back down the mountain or ski your way to the bottom.
5. Husky RidesHusky rides are a great family favorite and a superb way to see the snow covered wilderness. You glide along with only the sound of the wind whispering past your ears and the sound of the dogs panting as they take you on an unforgettable trek through the Tatra National Park valley. You can enjoy the ride or drive a team yourself with a guide accompanying you on the sleigh. It is an awesome way to spend a day.
