Sights in Zakopane

Edit This

Zakopane Sights might not make up an elaborate list, but one thing is for sure: the quality of the sights will be incredible.

Mount Kasprowy

Mount Kasprowy, also known as Kasprowy Wierch, has been a popular European Ski destination since the beginning of the 20th century. Its tramway, which goes almost to the top of the mountain, is the oldest in Europe, dating before the Second World War. But don’t worry. You can be assured it has been reinforced a few times since its construction. Just don’t expect a quiet trip to the top. This is a very popular resort, and you should plan on waiting a couple of hours to get your ticket, but it is definitely worth the wait.

Lake Morskie

Lake Morskie, also called the Morskie Oko, is the largest lake in these mountains, though not quite the deepest. It is also called Fish Lake (in Polish). The water is extremely clear, and you can watch the native trout here. You are not allowed to feed the trout or swim in the lake, however. There is not even a road that can be used by automobiles near the lake. In fact, you have to walk almost two hours to get to a motorized road. Fortunately, there are horse-drawn carriages available for those who cannot walk for two hours straight.

Krupowki Street

A visit to Zakopane without a visit to Krupowki Street would be a great missed opportunity. In fact, missing it may be impossible, considering that it is right in the middle of Zakopane. Krupowki Street is just a little over a kilometer in length, but the sheer amount of life in this small area is amazing. The name comes from the Krupa Family, who once had a clearing at the end of the street. For most of the 19th century this was quite a swampy area. It became a holiday area in the early 20th century, and grew into a bustling trade area right after that. There are really awesome clubs and bars on this street, some of which may claim to be the best in Poland. Apart from the clubs and bars, you also have traditional Polish restaurants, where they have a quaint tradition of Polish folk singers entertaining the diners. There are jewelry shops where you will find amber in good quantity. You can easily spend a few days just on Krupowki Street and not exhaust all the possibilities of fun.
