Eating Out Intro in Tromso
Edit ThisTromso is a Norwegian city that is cosmopolitan and culturally diverse, and the selection of Tromso restaurants is equally varied. If you plan to visit this scenic north Scandinavian city, don't miss out on the fabulous dining options that await you. Read on for a brief overview of the options.
Scandinavian
The best restaurants in Tromso are the Scandinavian ones. Specializing in traditional Norwegian foods like seafood, root vegetables and more, these restaurants provide a unique and cultural view of the city and the surrounding region. On the lower end of the price spectrum are restaurants like Vertshuset Skarven and O. L. Aune, and there are a variety of upscale and higher cost restaurants as well. These include Compagniet and Aurora and are not to be missed if you have the resources.
Steak
Norway has seen a boom in the steakhouse industry in recent years, with some restaurants that rival western competitors. Among the best are Steakers and Peppermolle, although they tend to be generally more expensive than steakhouses of comparable quality in other countries.
Seafood
Given its prime location relative to the sea, Norway and Tromso in particular have excellent seafood restaurants. These include Store Norske Fiskekompani and Arctandria. Options range depending upon the time of year and the catch of the day; always order the freshest fish available for the best meal.
Norway is generally quite a bit more expensive than many western countries, and it can be a shocking experience for travelers; be prepared to spend quite a bit more for a meal that is even on the cheaper side here than you would in other places.
