Beaches in North Cape
Edit This
Norway
does not usually strike the average traveler as being a beach
destination, being a land that is normally related to a snowy land.
North Cape definitely fits the description, with great cliffs and cold
winds as opposed to sunshine and waves, however there are some North
Cape Beaches. A drive away from North Cape brings you to some of the
most serene beaches in Europe.
North Cape
The northern most tip of Europe is marked by a massive cliff, long as the symbol of North Cape. Although not strictly a beach, the cliff stands firm against the crashing waves far down below. The sun against the backdrop of the cliffs is particularly spectacular. You'll be inspired by the serene magnificence of the sunlight upon the cliffs, and being the Arctic Circle, the sun never sets, creating the famous “midnight sun” that is now synonymous with the region. Those up for water activities can opt for the North Cape version – a day cruise around the area.
Ursetvika Nude Beach
Also located in north of Norway is the Ursetvika Nude Beach. Nude beaches are commonplace in Norway and Scandinavia, and during the summer months, the beach is lined with bodies looking for a golden tan. Like North Cape, Ursetvika Nude Beach, located in Salten/Bodö, enjoys the midnight sun during the mid-summer months. Entry into the beach is free, and though it is unsuitable for children, adults can enjoy the fine, white sand that covers the entire area. The water, however, is still freezing, even in the summer months – so don’t go expect to be doing many water activities!
Svalbard
Another region north of Norway, Svalbard is located close to the North Cape and is an archipelago that separates Norway from the North Pole. Once a whaling base, Svalbard is now one of the world’s only few places where Arctic animals can be spotted and seen in their natural habitat. The beaches of Svalbard are not typical. With sub-zero temperatures while walking along the beach, and even colder temperatures in the water, the beaches are not meant for the usual beach activities. Instead, the sandy beaches in Svalbard are populated with walruses. While here, explore the area and have a taste of the tundra, inhabited by reindeer, seals, Arctic birds and polar bears. The North Cape and the northern end of Norway definitely does not offer the typical beach experience, but the beaches in the area do provide a brand new experience for any traveler willing to explore.
