Shopping in Zandvoort
Edit ThisIt's no shopping paradise, but with the number of tourists it welcomes every year for its beach resorts, Zandvoort Shopping must be of a decent quality.
City Center
The city center is the best place for buying everyday goods: electronics like cameras, suitcases to contain extra shopping and beachwear for those coming unprepared. Shopping in the city center is slightly different from the conventional city. There are no large shopping malls or complexes. Instead, the city center has numerous little shops, each selling their own goods to the public. Those looking for souvenirs can purchase some cheaply here. Antiques and leather-based items come priced reasonably, as do the antique clocks that are available for sale from many of the clock makers here. Those looking to buy something a little less conventional to take home can always look to getting some sweets and confectionery in the form of meringue biscuits, shortbreads or cookies that can be easily packed into the suitcase.
Kaashoek
Located in Haltestraat, this little shop is full of surprises, especially for the tourists. This reflects a typical Dutch shop, constructed in an open air, over-the-top counter with service staff behind it. On shelves and racks are the goods for sale on display: cheese, cured meats, pickles and Dutch delicacies. The shop also sells Dutch wine, made from the vineyards of Holland. Not well known in the world, Dutch wines have a certain homey quality to them that bring about a warmth in the belly for anyone tasting them. All goods are offered for tasting. Samples are placed generously on the counter top for anyone who wants a taste of a particular food item.
Open Markets
These are not strictly proper markets, but rather, small stalls that are set up by people to peddle the goods that they have. Most of these markets occur in a slightly spontaneous, impromptu fashion, where a group merely gathers around an area and others join in. The timing of the markets is generally in the morning to around noontime, although there are those that stretch till the late afternoon. These markets have no fixed date or time, but they occur frequently enough for most tourists who stay in the city past the weekend to enjoy. Markets are the best way to meet the local people and experience their lifestyles, as well as a chance to taste the produce coming out of local farms.
