When to Go in Netherlands
Edit ThisThe Netherlands' position near the sea gives it a rather mild, maritime climate. This generally means that the winters are cool but not freezing and the summers are mild. The climate can greatly influence when to go to the Netherlands.
Weather in General
If the traveler only considers the weather then any time is really a good time to visit the Netherlands. The winters are cool, characterized by rain, and the summers quite mild. The Netherlands rarely get hot to the point where it is uncomfortable. Travelers will notice several outbreaks of rain if they decide to visit during the summer months. The weather in the Netherlands is highly changeable so pack for all types of scenarios.
June to August
For nearly all of Europe these are the busiest months for tourists. Travelers that visit during these months will have the added advantage of milder weather but the disadvantage of crowds and higher costs. The Netherlands is full of tourists both foreign and local. Dutch schools let out slightly later than the schools in North America--meaning that Dutch families start taking their summer holidays as well. July is known as one of the most crowded months in terms of tourists and traffic in the Netherlands. August is known for the month of events all over the country bringing in further tourists from all over the world.
Mid-March to Mid-May
There are very distinct advantages to visiting the Netherlands during this time. Those who visit in March will notice that it is the driest month of the year, although the temperatures can still be a bit chilly. This time is also considered a shoulder season so prices and the number of tourists are far less than in the high season. April brings what the Netherlands are famous for, flowers. In fact, several types of flowers will start to become in bloom making it an excellent time to see the Netherlands. April is best for daffodils and May is best for the tulips. Easter time is always busy so depending on your feelings about crowds, this could be a time to visit.
Early October
The Netherlands typically has an Indian summer in the early part of October. The day time temperatures can still be quite warm with the cold weather not setting in until night time. With the lower numbers of tourists and reduced prices, this can be a wonderful time to visit the Netherlands.
