Top 5 Must Do's in Wageningen
Edit ThisThere are so many things to do in the student-centered town of Wageningen, and many of these activities do not center on the students alone. Here are some of the Wageningen Must Do’s.
Walk around Wageningen University
Campus brings back good memories for most people, and here at Wageningen, the campus is simply beautiful. Rated as one of the most beautiful campuses in Europe, the university campus is open for public viewing, and contains gardens, lakes and magnificent architecture. With thousands of students coming to study here every year, Wageningen has a large number of international students, and domestic students from other parts of the Netherlands, promising a good mix of cultures and languages as visitors step into the grounds of learning.
Visit the Hotel de Wereld
Explore a part of Dutch and world history at the Hotel de Wereld in a visit to the historical site where the Nazis signed formal surrender to the Allies in 1945. The room where the signing took place is preserved as a monument and national reminder of the atrocities of war, and is open for public viewing. The hotel itself has been converted into a luxurious boutique hotel – 11 rooms are available with the full amenities like room service and high speed Internet. Do book in advance though, for the rooms are very limited.
View the Windkorenmolen De Vlijt
The Netherlands are nothing without its trademark windmill, and this is one of the few operating windmills left around the country. Churning out flour, the windmill serves as both a tourist photograph spot, as well as a flour mill for locals and visitors alike. Here, tourists can purchase a packet of locally milled flour, or taste the bread made from the very flour coming from the windmill.
Taste Dutch cuisine
Dutch cuisine balances both the heartiness of an English meal with the intricacies of the French, combined with a touch of local warmth and goodness. The Open Market is a good place to try good Dutch street food, such as Dutch mini-pancakes smothered in syrup and icing sugar, or local coffee. Restaurants serving up various different cuisines in the city center are nearly always decent, but for a true taste of Holland, try hanging out after hours at a local pub with a bottle of ice cold beer for the ultimate experience.
Go to the Casteelse Poort Museum
Built over the ruins of the old Wageningen castle, the Museum is a showcase of Wageningen history. Relive the glory days of Wageningen as a city fort during the 17th century by looking at the exhibits, or going around the museum to the back, where a section of the wall and the fortress are kept in perfectly-preserved condition. Archaeological digs are still going on in the basement of the place and are uncovering exciting finds about the castle. Visitors can witness these digs as they are open for public viewing.

Edit This1. Take a walk along the `Bergpad' overlooking the `Uiterwaarden,' the flood-prone area leading down to the Rhine River. The `Bergpad' is along the edge of the Wageningse Berg and is a most pleasant walk, the path going past homes, through forests, and past the Botanic Gardens run by the University.
2. Go for a meal to the Panoramahoeve at nearby Bennekom. It is a pancake restaurant, also serving poffertjes (mini pancakes). It is in the middle of a spectacular forest. This restaurant has been there for very many years and is justly famous.
