Festivals in Volendam

The Netherlands take their festivals very seriously, and Volendam follows suit. If you like fun and excitement in your festivals, then this is the place to visit. You will find a few of the celebrations in the Volendam city to be originated locally. They also celebrate the major Holland observed festivals. On most of the festivals and holidays, folks still wear old style dutch costumes.
Tulip Time Festival
Tulip Time Festival shows the intense love that the Dutch have for costumes, dance and music. It comes to Voledam during the month of May and last for eight days. The festival revolves around various dancing performances by adults in Dutch costumes from the 1920's-1950's. The streets and auditoriums are filled with merrymaking. Workshops and information booths are available in abundance.
Klaphek Festival
During the summer is when you will find the Klaphek Festival. This is a wild musical festival, which usually happens during the summer or the early fall months. The length of the festival starts out for a few days, but can spontaneously continue on for days. Bands from Volendam and the surrounding area showcase their musical talent.
National Festivals
Rememberance Day and Liberation Day are celebrated here just like everywhere else in Holland. On May fourth, the city gathers at the local war memorial to commemorate the Second World War and offer two minutes of silence for those who liberated themselves from five years of occupation. After the ceremony, celebrations continue until midnight on May fifth.
Christmas celebrations begin in the middle of November and continue on up to a day or two before Christmas day. The day of Christmas is quite somber, but the weeks preceding is a time of great enthusiasm and festivities.
