Edit This

A couple of interesting Volendam day trips are available to travelers. Although this small town offers a number of sights as well, you should seriously think about taking a day trip to one of these locations.

Amsterdam

Being in Volendam gives you the great opportunity to visit Amsterdam, the capital of Netherlands. There is a public bus line connecting both cities, so the trip won’t cost you more than $8. There is a lot to see in Amsterdam. For the travelers interested in culture, there are over 50 museums, most popular of which are the Van Gogh museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk museum. If you’re on a family travel, you should visit the Artis Zoo and the Amsterdam Botanical Garden. For nightlife lovers, there is the scandalous Red Light District with many bars. Don’t forget to see the canals that earned Amsterdam the name “Venice of the North”.

Marken

Marken is a small picturesque village and is reachable both by land and see. However, the trip by bus is much longer and a bit boring. That’s why you should take the lovely Marken Express ferry from the Volendam harbor. The ticket will cost you less than $9. The major attraction in Marken is the preserved folklore. A big part of the local residents still lives in traditional houses and wears folklore costumes, denying the modern clothes. Other interesting sights in the village are the Marken History Museum and the Wooden Shoe Factory, where wooden shoes are manufactured by hand.
