Practical Information in Valkenburg
Edit ThisUseful Information for your Stay at Valkenburg
This Valkenburg practical information guide will give you valuable insight into this Dutch town. Here is some useful information for your stay at Valkenburg, which will give you tips on how to handle money and how to communicate with the people around.
Demographics
Valkenburg is a popular tourist destination within the Netherlands and although it has a resident population of about 18 000 people, this number grows rapidly with the number of tourists added, especially during the spring and the summer. You will see that by yourself if you take a short walk along the town’s main pedestrian street (Grotestraat). It will be literally swarming with people. Languages you can use for communication (except Dutch) are English and German. English is spoken by everyone (at a good level) and German is spoken by about a half of the people in Valkenburg.
Money
The currency used in Valkenburg, as in the rest of the Netherlands, is the Euro. The town is small, so it is good to have money in cash. To get the best exchange rates, change your money in a bank at some of the bigger cities. Don’t be tempted to change your money in exchange bureaus or hotels, as their rates are significantly lower. Just go to the nearby city of Maastricht, which is about 5km east of Valkenburg, and visit one of the many banks at its center. The dollar-to-euro exchange rate varies, but is usually $1.25 per Euro.
