Getting There in Utrecht
Edit ThisIf your destination within the Netherlands is Utrecht, getting
there is not complicated. Although Utrecht does not have an airport,
it forms part of the main Dutch highway and railroad networks. Within
the Netherlands, it has a centric location.
Airport and Airlines
Airlines such as United, Delta
and Air France depart from major U.S. cities with direct flights to
Amsterdam. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is the national airline carrier and
has the largest number of flights available. Upon arrival, you can
either take the bus or train into Utrecht. The Zuidtangent Express bus line offers various regional connections. However, the best way to
get to Utrecht is by train. Although the train may be a bit more
expensive, it is more direct and easier to navigate.
Train Tips
To purchase train tickets go to the ticket office, or use one of the vending machines at the Schiphol train station. One thing to take note of: return tickets are only valid for 1 day. At the station you can catch a train that goes directly from Amsterdam’s airport into Utrecht. Second-class tickets cost about $10 USD. First-class tickets go for $16 dollars. The train ride to Utrecht takes approximately 40 minutes.
Taxi
If you wish, you can also take a taxi to Utrecht. Call the Utrecht Taxi Company (UTC) at (30) 230-0400 to make a reservation. As you can imagine though, the rate is extremely expensive. Taxi fare is approximately $80 dollars. If you decide to grab a taxi from Schipol Airport without having made prior arrangements, expect a 40-minute wait.
