Bars and Cafes in Utrecht
Edit ThisUtrecht is the capital of the Dutch province of Utrecht and is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands. If you are looking for a good place to relax and soak in this ancient city's atmosphere with a drink, there are several Utrecht Bars and Cafes to pick from. If you do not speak Dutch and you are out visiting bars in the Netherlands, make an effort to learn at least, "Hello, how are you?" in Dutch; 99 percent of the Dutch will answer you in English but even though most of the Dutch speak English, it is important to be polite and respectful of their culture--and you'll have a fantastic time.
Stadskasteel Oudaen
Stadskasteel Oudaen, a thirteenth century castle turned brewery and restaurant, should be the first stop on any tourist's trip to Utrecht bars and cafes. Besides being able to sit on the terrace of a castle while drinking highly recommended beer (which should be enough) you can also participate in beer tastings and guided tours of the entire castle.
Olivier Cafe
Olivier Cafe considers itself a Belgium embassy, and it serves numerous world famous styles of beer such as Trappist, Abbey, fruit beers and high-fermentation beers. At this cafe they take their beer seriously - every beer you order will be poured differently in order to preserve the flavor of that particular brew. And did I mention this cafe is located in an 1860s era church? This church still has its high ceilings, an altar niche and even the original organ.
Ledig Erf
Located off of the beaten path, Ledig Erf is well worth the walk, or you could just hop on the number two bus. This 19th century bar considers itself a "beer and chess" pub and even has chess tables built into the tables. With over 60 Dutch and Belgian beers this bar is perfect for trying new things or just hanging out in their beautiful outside seating and soaking in the old Dutch city near the moat.
Cafe Lust
This traditional looking Dutch brown cafe boasts beer and a well made cocktail. Cafe Lust also brings in DJs on the weekends to mix it up with some hip-hop beats. It also has a terrace that is perfect for relaxing in the sun during the day before you head back out to enjoy the rest of beautiful Utrecht.
