Gevangenpoort

Edit This

Museum Gevangenpoort (The Prison Gate), is located in the former entrance gate to the Buitenhof, one of 3 gates to the Court of Holland, of which this gate is the only one to remain. The building was the first prison in the world where being locked up was considered a punishment, not just a preambule to being tortured. The cell block has hardly changed since the 16th century, you can see 400 year old graffiti scribbled on the original interior. A large collection of devices, relating to interrogation, punishment and police equipment are on display. A movie is shown more..
