1 Valkhof-Kam Museum

Nijmegen played a pivotal part in the history of the Netherlands, which makes it an interesting place to visit. The Valkhof Museum is built on Waal, the imperial court of Charlemagne. The complex holds the 8th century St. Nicholas Chapel and the ruins of the 12th century Romanesque St. Maartenskapel, which offers a breathtaking view of the Waal plains. 2 Nationaal Bevrijdingsmuesum

The museum lies in the whimsical scenery of hills and abundant forest close to the border of Germany. Relive the history of the 1940s through the original film footages, lectures and memorabilia. It also has a museum shop where a good selection of souvenir awaits the visitors from historical videos to books to a jar of original Waal sand and postcards. 3 Museumpark Orientalis

The open air museum is famous for its oriental styled museum villages which showcase the Jewish, Christian and Islam traditions. Museumpark Orientalis allows its visitors to discover these religions’ shared stories and a modern look on how they influenced Europe throughout the years. Visitors are sure to enjoy the works of art and the tranquil scenery as they stroll around the village. There is also a miniature railroad where visitors can tour the complex.

4 Muzieum

This interactive museum provides guests with a chance to experience firsthand how it is to be visually challenged. It’s Discovering the Dark tour is a walk in the dark and the helpful blind guide will assist and answer all the visitors’ questions. At the end of the tour, visitors can experience a one of a kind dining where you get to drink something you cannot see. A definite must visit.

5 Four Day March

The city plays host to the world renowned International Four Day March Nijmegen which is held every third Tuesday of July since 1916. Participants walk a distance of 30 to 50 km a day through the towns of Elst, Wijchen, Groesbeek and ending in Cujiik. Upon completion, the participants are awarded the Vierdaagsekruis, an authorized royal medal. The event is highlighted by a number of festivities and the participation of World War II veterans.
