Travel

Walking around the local section of town where you are staying is probably best, there is beauty here that is absolutely serene. Another option is to rent a bike from the hotel you are staying at. Be aware that traffic is hectic, so be careful. If you favor buses, city transportation operated by Novio. Hermes bus company is responsible for regional bus travel. It may be best to get a rental car so you can drive to explore the surrounding small towns and historic sites.

Things to Do

Ease and serenity are the main attributes of the local attractions. A day or two can be spent just walking through the Kronenburger, the park set in the center of Nijmegen. Also downtown on Valkhof hill stands a Carolingian chapel built around the seventh through ninth centuries. On a hill about 2.5 miles from the city stands St. Stevenskerk, a gothic church overlooking the Waal river. Or go to Ber en Dal which is located 4.5 miles from the city to experience a quiet time of soul restoration. Carnival is a festival event that starts six weeks before Easter. People dress up in funny costumes and drink, parades venture in every town and village. In May, Dag van het Levenslied, a highly acclaimed music festival is in full swing.
