Maastricht has very good train and road connections. It is 2.5 h by (direct)train from Amsterdam or The Hague. The Motorway A2 conects Maastricht to the north. By the way allong the A2 at the Geuselt football stadium there is a special hitchhiking place if you travel to the north. From Maastricht you can make excursions (by train) to Aachen in Germany or Liege in Belgium (where there is a connection to the TGV to Paris. Maastricht also has a small airport with regular flights to and from Amsterdam, London and Dusseldorf.
