Getting Around in Maastricht
Edit ThisMaastricht offers tourists a host of popular attractions and events. Learn how to best experience the city with the onslaught of transportation options readily available.
On Foot
Surveying Maastricht on foot remains the best option, as it allows tourists the opportunity to better explore the city. Most of the landmarks remain centrally located and can be easily reached by walking. With large parks and foot bridges covering the region, pedestrians have it made.
Bus
Maastricht’s bus system, known as Stadsbus, offers clean and affordable travel options throughout the city. Purchase a pass, or a Strippenkaart, before you board the bus. Loaded with varying denominations, the cards include discounted fares and can be used on any city bus.
Bike
Most cities throughout the Netherlands heavily feature bicycles as a means of transportation. While it may be popular among locals, tourists can get in on the action, too. A series of shops which rent out bicycles for the day (at a favorable rate) can be found throughout Maastricht.
Train
In order to get across town, tourists may wish to take the Maastricht’s city train. Running four times an hour, the train travels from 20 minutes outside the heart of the city, Maastricht Centraal Station, to the town’s southern tip at Maastricht Randwyck.
Car
Maastricht doesn't have a reputation as a car-friendly city. In fact, most of the city remains closed off to pedestrians only. If you absolutely must rent a car, the Maastricht Airport features a series of car rental offices, including Hertz and Europcar.
