Day Trips Intro in Maastricht
Edit ThisThe Netherlands is a small enough country that you can fully explore a number of adjacent countries and areas within a day's journey; Maastricht day trips are thus very widespread and varied. Read on for a brief overview to some of the places that you can go, broken down according to the country.
Belgium
The closest country to the Netherlands is Belgium. Spa is an excellent city for different cuisines and food from around the world, both Belgian and otherwise. Liege is also close by (within about 2 hour's drive from Maastricht), and has an excellent mix of different shops and places to explore on foot.
Germany
Germany is also relatively accessible from the Netherlands, and the trip into Germany takes roughly two hours from Maastricht. Aachen is the closest major city, and it features a beautiful and ancient cathedral, unique German and foreign restaurants, shopping, several different pleasant town squares and plazas to enjoy on nice days, and much more.
Netherlands
Amsterdam is relatively close by and can be accessed within a couple of hours by car as well. This capital city is a cultural hub and features dozens of different museums, art galleries, a thriving literary and book scene and much more. There are also a number of hiking and biking trails around Amsterdam for the more adventurous and outdoor-oriented.
