Things to Do in Hilversum
Edit ThisA Hilversum things to do list would have some very distinctive things to consider doing when you visit Hilversum.
Beel en Geluid
Hilversum is the media capital of the Netherlands and has a building called Beel en Geluid, which is an absolute must-see. Just from the outside you have a façade like no other. This façade was designed by Artist Jaap Drupsteen. The building has a great interior as well. The façade itself has constantly changing colors and is an interesting facade to look at. The building holds a lot of Dutch media archives which may be of interest to more the academically inclined.
Hiking
Hilversum is a very green city and, in fact, was once known as the Garden of Amsterdam. Hilversum is a relaxing place to be if there is no schedule to be maintained. There are so many places to hike around in the city. A visit to Anna’s Hoeve would definitely be worth it. There is an interesting fact behind the lakes and hills in Anna’s Hoeve. They were created by unemployed people in the middle of the Great Depression. Bussumerheide, Westerheide and Zuiderheide are the places to go to see prehistoric Hilversum. You can see 3000-year-old burial mounds here. There is a forest here too called the Corversbos. It is not too dense and can be part of a good comfortable hike. There are bees and beehives here so be careful. You can see owls and woodpeckers as well.
Hilversum Shopping
Hilversum is a great place to shop for many reasons. It is actually ranked as one of the top shopping destinations in the Netherlands. It is very versatile and also has a huge variety of items to offer. The main reason is that it is right in the center of the Netherlands so gets products from all over the country. Products in fashion, interior decoration, electronics and sports abound. It is not just the city center which is a great place to shop but also the smaller side streets have wonderful shopping as well. Hilversum shopping is not for the inexperienced shopper. A quick glance may not show anything special. But, if you are willing to look, you will unearth a lot of good finds. The clothing and fashion part of the shopping can be really done well in Hilversum as it is on the cutting edge of fashion. The other really good thing about Hilversum is that most of the shopping can be done by just walking around. While on most days shops close by 6 p.m., on Thursdays they remain open until 9 p.m.
