Museums in Groningen
Edit ThisBest of Groningen Museums: Groninger Museum
Groningen occupies immense significance in the history of Netherlands. This is best exemplified in the exhibits of popular Groningen Museums, like the Groninger Museum itself.
Groninger Museum Overview
The museum was founded in 1894. It is now counted among the most authentic sources of modern art across Europe. The museum displays modernist creations across numerous pavilions. In total, three pavilions showcase the most credited modern art creations. Some of the masterpieces displayed here include the silver building creation of Philippe Starck and other works by artists like Coop Himmelb and Alessandro Mendinio.
Popular Groninger Museum Displays
The Groninger Museum often schedules special exhibits dedicated to world-famous artists. For instance, it has often showcased works by artists like John William Waterhouse. Many times, abstract art has also been displayed at the museum. This includes the controversial photo collection of Andres Serrano. The museum has been patronized by globally-renowned personalities like filmmaker Mendini and American artists like Frank Stella.
Garnering International Patronage
The exhibits at the museum aren't limited to regional or European collections. The display is largely international, with drawings often being sourced from nations like Australia, Taiwan, Canada, England and Ireland. Exhibitions are scheduled in partnership with leading global art resources such as the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Canada) and the Royal Academy of Arts (London).
