Groningen is the capital city of Groningen Province in the Netherlands. Groningen Day Trips are an excellent way to see the surrounding areas of the city. Here are some Groningen Day Trips to consider.

Warffum

The village of Warffum is 20 minutes for Groningen. A “mound village”, Warffum was constructed to be above flood levels. Everything in the village is constructed above the line, including livestock pens. Just outside the village is a medieval fair that is open during the weekends from 10 am to 5 pm. This village is one of the most historic villages in the Netherlands. Warffum is connected to Groningen by train. It is easily accessible by car as well.

Uithuizen

Uithulizen is another mound village near Groningen and is famous for one particular architectural gem. The village’s church dates back to the 13th century and its organ was added in the 17th century. Students and tourist coming to the village will get chance to see the Medieval architecture at its best. The is village is connected to Groningen by train.

Delfziji

The port city of Delfziji makes another worthwhile day trip. This port city is located on the river Ems. On a clear day a tourist can see Germany across the bay.
